THE TOP ARMY MEDICAL FINANCIAL AID OPTIONS

THE HPSP WILL COVER YOUR FULL TUITION

 

The Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) is one of the most comprehensive scholarships available in the health care field, covering your full tuition (graduate programs) for an advanced medical degree while also providing you with a monthly stipend.

 

This program could be for you if you are pursuing a career in one of these fields:

 

  • Medical (including Osteopathy) - up to a four-year scholarship to students accepted to or enrolled in accredited schools of medicine or osteopathy

  • Dental - provides 2-year, 3-year, and 4-year scholarships for students enrolled in an ADA accredited Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) program

  • Veterinary - available for the last three years of veterinary school / have to be in the 1st year to apply

  • Nursing - DNP for a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

  • Counseling and Clinical Psychology - Provides 1, 2, and 4-year scholarships to students in APA-accredited clinical or
    counseling psychology doctoral programs.

  • Optometry - 1, 2, and 3-year scholarships to students enrolled in or accepted to accredited optometry programs

 

HPSP provides you with:

 

  • Full tuition for up to four years, depending on specialty

  • Funding for books, equipment, and other school fees

  • Monthly stipend of $2,870

  • $20,000 sign-on bonus (only applicable for 4+ years service commitment)

  • Salary increases with promotions, time in service, and cost-of-living adjustments

  • Fellowship opportunities paid for by the Army after completion of residency

 

Requirements for HPSP:

 

  • U.S. citizenship

  • Active duty status in the Army

  • Qualification as a Commissioned Officer

  • In progress or completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school

  • Acceptance to or enrollment in an accredited graduate, doctoral, or medical school program in the U.S. or Puerto Rico

  • Full-time student status during the length of the program

RESIDENCY MONTHLY STIPEND PROGRAM FOR THE RESERVES

 

Get a monthly stipend while in residency with the Specialized Training Assistance Program (STRAP), in exchange for serving in the Army Reserve.

Get a monthly stipend while in residency with the Financial Assistance Program (FAP), in exchange for serving in the Active Duty Army

 

STRAP and FAP programs could be for you if you are currently in residency in one of these fields:

 

  • Medical

STRAP and FAP provides you with:

 

  • Monthly stipend of $2,870

  • Opportunity to apply for the Reserves Loan Repayment Program

 

Requirements:

 

  • Commitment to join (as the licensed provider, not soldier)

  • Current enrollment in an accredited residency program. Jobs available vary every year (and positions could close depending on the number of applicants)

  • FAP: Need License to start receiving the stipend.​​​​

LET THE ARMY PAY BACK YOUR STUDENT LOANS

 

If you took out loans to pay for your health care education, the Army could pay them back as part of the Health Professions Loan Repayment Program.

​

This program could be for you if you are in one of these fields: ​

  • Medical

  • Dental

  • Nursing

 

This program provides you with: ​

  • Up to $250,000 in repayment of a qualifying loan, paid back to the lending institution, depending on the medical specialty and Army status

  • Nursing (total of $60K)

 

Requirements for this program: ​

Army Reserve status in the Army, depending on specialty.

Medical/Dental School Stipend Program (MDSSP)

MDSSP is available only to medical and dental students. Students must be enrolled in good standing or have a firm unconditional written acceptance from an accredited dental school. Must be a US Citizen. Student incurs a 1-year obligationin the AR for every 6 months (or partial 6-month period) of financial assistance. MDSSP Provides a monthly stipend of $2,870.

The Army-UK Master of Social Work (MSW) Program
The Army Master of Social Work (MSW) Program is a 14-month course through the University of Kentucky consisting of 60 semester hours, followed by a 26-month Social Work Internship Program. This program is open to civilians, officers and enlisted personnel requesting to become RA MS Corps Army officers so that they may pursue the MSW via the Army-UK MSW Program. Applicants should have a liberal arts undergraduate degree from an accredited university. However, all undergraduate degrees are accepted if the applicant has at least 18 undergraduate semester hours in the behavioral/social sciences and 3 semester hours of statistics. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and GRE score of 290 or higher. Applicants pending graduation from a degree program must submit a letter from the university dean’s office showing the applicant’s academic standing, current program, current GPA, currently enrolled courses, and anticipated graduation date. Applicants incur a 42-month ADO that begins upon receipt of licensure. This is a one-time-a-year board meeting in January of each year.


The Social Work Internship Program (SWIP)
This program is open to civilians, officers, and enlisted personnel requesting to become RA MS Corps Army officers. The SWIP is conducted at multiple Army Medical Treatment Facilities for a 26-month period. The SWIP is an educational bridge between the Master of Social Work (MSW) program at the AMEDD Center and School and independent social work practice. It is a formal training program designed to give social work interns structured supervision as they transition from their role as social work students to independent providers. The SWIP exposes unlicensed Active Duty social workers to key areas of practice within the social work career field and allows the advanced application of theory to practice in a supervised setting. Applicants require a Master of Social Work degree with agraduating GPA of 3.5 or higher. The degree must be accredited by a CHEA and CWSE. Applicant must provide a PSV of their master’s level license by a date specified in each year’s MILPER message. LGSW, LMSW, LSW, CMSW, or CSW are the only acceptable licenses. Applicants incur a 30-month ADO upon completion of the program and  licensure. This is a one-time-a-year board meeting in June of each year.


Audiology Externship Program (AEP)
AEP provides a 1-year clinical audiology externship to students who have completed all academic coursework for their doctorate in audiology (Au. D) and are eligible for the 1-year program. Training is conducted at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland. Applicants incur a 36-month ADO following completion of the externship. This is a one-time-a-year board meeting in September of each year.

Army-Baylor University Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) Program
Active Duty entry-level Doctoral Program in Occupational Therapy at the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE), Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA), Texas. The program consists of two phases – the academic phase and the clinical internship phase. The academic phase is 18-months of graduate didactic coursework at the MEDCoE. The internship phase is 12-months of supervised Level II Fieldwork and Doctoral Capstone Experience at select military treatment facilities. Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded a Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from Baylor University and are eligible to sit for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

Army-Baylor University Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy (DPT)
Active Duty entry-level nationally-ranked Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy at the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE), Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA), Texas. The program consists of two phases – the academic phase and the clinical internship phase. The academic phase is 18-months of graduate didactic coursework at the MEDCoE. The internship phase is 12 months supervised clinicals at select military treatment facilities. Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded a Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from Baylor University and are eligible to sit for the for state licensure.

Army-Baylor University Master’s Program in Nutrition (MPN)
Active Duty entry-level Master’s Program in Nutrition at the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE), Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA), Texas. The integrated 24-month program consists of 66 credit hours of graduate didactic coursework at MEDCoE and 1,350 hours of supervised experiential learning rotations at select civilian, VA, and military treatment facilities. The Army Baylor MPN replaced the legacy Military-Baylor Graduate Program in Nutrition (GPN). Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded a Master of Nutrition Science from Baylor University and are eligible to sit for the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) credentialing exam.
